Rugs
Our sheepskin rugs should be brushed, shaken and vacuumed regularly. If an area of the rug gets wet, you may use a dry, absorbent cloth or sponge to soak up the liquid. If the dirt is dry, then use a damp sponge to wet and soak up the soil. If the dirt is more substantial, you can use a little dry foam carpet cleaner or resolve (test it first). Let it sit and then sponge it up with a damp sponge. Please be very gentle, so that the wool won’t mat. When the rug is dry, then you can brush it gently to restore the softness.
Seat Covers
Sheepskin seat covers should be vacuumed regularly. A small amount of liquid on them will just bead up and roll off, but if you get a stain on them, you can use a dry foam carpet cleaner and gently work it out with a damp sponge. If your seat covers get wet (from rain or a substantial spill), you must remove them from the seats and let them completely dry before reinstalling them. Seat covers can be washed, but great care must be taken as follows:
- Vacuum thoroughly, while still on the seats.
- Remove the seat covers from the seats and shake them.
- Remove all hooks from the straps (keep for re-installation).
- Wash in cold water with a mild detergent (such as any of the baby detergents) by hand or on the delicate cycle of a washing machine. Do not use regular clothes detergents, as they will strip away the natural oils in the sheepskin and they won’t be as soft anymore. We also do not recommend frequent washing of sheepskin because every time you wash them they will lose more of their softness. Generally, sheepskin seatcovers only need to be washed every couple of years or so.
- Air dry your sheepskin seat covers, away from heat and/or sunlight, with the wool side down (so it drips away from the skin). Do not put them in a dryer, not even on the fluff setting.
- Once they are dry, you may gently brush them with a wire pet brush or other soft brush.
Please keep in mind that when you first install seat covers on your seats, you may experience an odor for a few weeks. This is a natural odor of sheepskin and comes from the natural oils in the skin. You can alleviate the smell by leaving your windows slightly cracked, so the smell can escape over time.
Suede Products
All suede products, such as footwear and hats, must not be fully immersed in water. To remove soiled areas, you may use a suede block, which can be purchased at any leather goods retailer.
Sheepskin Toys
Our sheepskin toys can be spot-treated with a damp sponge and/or a little dry foam carpet cleaner, but they shouldn’t be fully immersed in water. Please be very gentle so that the wool does not mat. Air Dry inside
Fur Toys
Our fur toys cannot be washed. If something gets in the fur, brush or gentle comb it out but do not wash the toy or toy may damage it. |
